HOA abuses and fraud closures - Why doesn't the press talk about what is really going on - "More details revealed in Las Vegas HOA fraud case ," privatopia.blogspot.com

The press and our elected officials and investigative agencies, all of them, state and federal, need to address what is really going on in abusive and criminal HOAs. There are so few voices for the victims.  There are homeowner advocates and advocacies with websites, and some with blogs, authors on HOAs with blogs and websites, attorneys and educators on HOAs with blogs and websites, one outstanding internet radio program on HOAs, On the Commons, onthecommons.us, with Host/Producer Shu Bartholomew, that addresses the range of homeowner abuses and criminality being inflicted, but that is it!  Most of these incredible people and homeowner advocates, the general public, and most homeowners in these groups knows nothing about!  Why is that?

The perpetrators and all their associates need to be charged and prosecuted and their victims rectified, no matter the locale  These abuses, the property and equity theft, along with the horrific and outrageous range of and criminality and abuses to innocent homeowners is unthinkable to most. Yet, the predators and perpetrators are getting away with it.  Why is that?

Those that know and are in a position to report on it, but do nothing, or those in investigative and/or enforcement agencies, who know, but do nothing should be ashamed.  Additionally, homeowners in these groups where these abuses and the criminality is going on, or, has gone on, should be ashamed of themselves also.  There is no excuse for these intentional and willful abuses by HOA boards, possibly some property managers, attorneys, and/or judges, or former judges.

I disagree with Professor McKenzie, because I believe some in the insurance industry are tied right into the property thefts, property destruction, to take homes, and more.  Also, some HOA boards are "paid."  They receive free maintenance (monthly assessment charges) in exchange for their "service."  I believe this is wrong too and the IRS should take a look at the groups who are in involved in this practice.  I suspect none is reported.

Note: HOAs, homeowner associations is being used as a general term and to include, COAs, condominium associations, POAs, property owners associations, and all, CICs, common interest communities.

"More details revealed in Las Vegas HOA fraud case "

http://m.reviewjournal.com/news/las-vegas/new-details-revealed-hoa-fraud-case

"What this massive fraud reveals is how vulnerable HOAs and condo associations are to being taken over or manipulated into becoming ATMs for fraudsters. Insurance companies were taken to the cleaners. I haven't even tried to list all the embezzlement cases. I have a notebook three inches thick of press clippings reporting them. Then there were the developer and converter frauds.  Here in Chicago at least 200 fraudulent condo conversions shoveled millions of dollars from banks into the pockets of crooks, cost investors a fortune, and victimized  hundreds of tenants who were paying rent to somebody who didn't own the building.

And all that criminality is in addition to the non-criminal practices of underfunding reserves that  exposes owners to enormous risk, and vendors charging ridiculous fees for doing nothing and locking  associations into terrible adhesion contracts.

Why is it so hard to put all this together and reach the obvious conclusion that the money side of CIDs is not working?  The media have a frame for reporting on the social control conflicts that happen in associations--flags, pets, political signs, religious symbols--but they can't seem to see the pattern when it comes to the enormous financial problems that leave millions of Americans vulnerable to major economic loss.

It makes no sense to put untrained, uncompensated, and often unqualified volunteers in charge of billions of dollars, based on a bogus ideology of privatism."
